Getting more protein at a college dining hall does not have to be complicated. Start with the obvious protein foods available that morning, then build the rest of your breakfast around them.

1. Start with eggs

Eggs are an easy breakfast option when they are available. Scrambled eggs, hard-boiled eggs, or an omelet can give you a solid protein base before adding the rest of your meal.

2. Grab Greek yogurt

Greek yogurt can be an easy way to add more protein without eating another large serving of food. Add fruit, granola, or oats if you also need more carbohydrates and calories.

3. Drink milk

A glass of milk is an easy addition to a dining hall breakfast. If you are trying to gain weight, it can also help add calories without making your plate much larger.

4. Look for cottage cheese or breakfast meat

If your dining hall offers cottage cheese, sausage, ham, or another breakfast meat, these can give you additional options. You do not need every protein source at once; choose what fits your meal and what you actually enjoy eating.

5. Add carbohydrates

Protein does not need to be the only focus of breakfast. Oatmeal, toast, bagels, cereal, pancakes, potatoes, and fruit can provide carbohydrates that help make breakfast more complete, especially if you are training later.

Build a repeatable breakfast

You do not need a different meal every morning. Finding two or three dining hall breakfasts that you enjoy and can consistently eat makes getting enough food and protein much easier during a busy semester.
